How to Calculate Test Grades & Points Missed
Calculating an exam or quiz score involves determining the proportion of earned points against total available points. In an unweighted question format where every item carries uniform weight, the formula is:
Score (%) = [(Total Questions - Missed Questions) / Total Questions] × 100
For example, on a 40-question biology midterm where a student misses 6 questions: (40 - 6) / 40 = 34 / 40 = 0.85 × 100 = 85.0% (Grade B / 3.0 Quality Points).
